    Engine choices:

SLK55: The new SLK 55 AMG now sets a new benchmark in terms of power (265 kW/360 hp), torque (510 newton metres) and acceleration (0-100 km/h: 4.9 seconds). The V8 power unit is twinned as standard with the recently developed 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission controlled by the driver using gearshift buttons on the steering wheel.

SLK 350: Mercedes-Benz has developed a new six-cylinder engine with around 25 percent more power (200 kW/272 hp) and 13 percent more torque (350 newton metres) for the SLK 350. The four-valve engine is one of the most powerful V6 units in its displacement class and its sporting character can be clearly distinguished by its powerful, vibrant engine note.

Maximum torque is available from an engine speed of just 2400 rpm and remains constant across a wide rev band extending up to 5000 rpm. This allows the car to be accelerated hard and permits rapid bursts of power. From a standing start, the SLK 350 reaches 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds (with the 7G-TRONIC: 5.5 seconds) and accelerates from 60 to 120 km/h in 8.7 seconds (with the 7G-TRONIC: 5.1 seconds).

Also there will be an SLK200 Kompressor with 163hp. Check out Germancarfans for the full release.

I love the styling. Specifically the roof lines and the rear.

the front grill is one of the hallmarks of benz styling. IMO this thing ignores that and tries too hard to copy the SLR.

In other contries MB has offered manual tranny's for years but slim to none on their high end cars.

The current model C-Class (W203) and SLK(R171) are the only cars Mercedes offeres in a manual.

Between the two chasis 5 cars are offered in a manual.

None make more than 215hp which is a complete joke if you ask me :o

Most people that haven't driven a manual alot have liked the 7G.

I'll do a review once my dad gets his SL two more months :bigthumb:

Autocar tested it in the S-Class. Said the shift quality was great, but it had a real tendency to hunt for gears on half throttle. Also I just fail to see the need for two reverse gears.

Oh I see. Now I completely understand why that'd be better than a manual

Big question is could you see yourself driving one? Personally there is no way I would consider the SLK, even if it did have the 5.5litre V8 shoehorned under the bonnet. The fact that its related to lesser models that too many hair-dresser's will drive just destroys its image for me.

At least with the SL55, there arent that many hairdressers out there with SL500s and SL350s, so it retains at least some macho image. However I have a problem with the SL as well as it was voted gayest car in some survey last year.

Kick ass. I wasn't too keen on the old design, but I really like this new look. Loads of power helps too :o
