"good" anything is subjective. i like it because i had fun watching it, and i respect it for being ahead of it's time (1968... damn)

Let's see... have Xicculus and INFERNO2K banned from On Topic, or move thread to another subforum...

The ban would be more fun, but the move would be easier. Decisions, decisions.

Ah, hell. I guess I'll move it.

Qlimax, I put this in the scifi forum. At least you won't get "because you touch yourself at night" responses in here.

It bores the crap out of me. I tried again to watch it the other day, and fell asleep before the monkeys even found the monolith.

Staring at a blank wall for 6 months represents the realism of space travel, too. But it's not amazing or exciting.

Ok, I finished the book on wednesday, and watched the movie last night.

I enjoyed it more than I did before I read the book, but I still say it could EASILY be an hour shorter with a good edit.

    HOWEVER

The ending is still stupid. It was great until they get to Jupiter, but once they do it doesn't make any more sense. "Doo de doo, flying to jupiter, hey, look at the colors, my spaceship is in a hotel room, and there's an old man, oh look, it's me, and my monoliths, let me show you them, and now there's a floating baby"

    :ugh:

Even knowing what happened because I read the book, I still didn't know what the fuck was going on. Fuck that movie and fuck Stanley Kubrick in his artsy, pretentious ass.

There was some good stuff too, though. I liked how they compared the astronauts gathering around TMA-1 on the moon to the monkeys gathering around the one on earth.

Dude. The movie is 30 years old. I think the statute of limitations on spoilers is like 2 years.
