Should be fine with the 20" @ 200+yds. but if you decide to shoot longer distances the 24" would always be nice though.

How are you going to be shooting it? Carrying it all day? Laying on a hill? Sitting at a bench?

If shooting offhand while walking all day I say 20" Otherwise 24".

It's going to vary, half of the time I'll be walking around shooting whatever varmint I happen upon. The other half of the time I'll be either at a bench rest at the range or laying on my belly trying for long range hits on the gong.

I have a 24", and while it's nice, esp if you're going long distances, it's really fucking heavy. You will need a bipod, no questions asked, off hand shooting (esp if it's a heavy barrel like mine is) will be difficult

We're talking about a difference of half an inch at 200 yards if compared with a 16in barrel. I suppose a squirrel head isn't very large though...

Just curious, all you guys who shoot squirrels all day, do you actually eat them or do anything with them? There's a lot of talk of varmint hunting on here but not a lot of talk about what happens after you kill something.

I should have made this a poll, some people say 20" some say 24". I would like to keep it somewhat light however, that's what makes the AR's so great IMO.

When I kill ground squirrels I don't eat them, they have disease, fleas, and ticks.

So do deer, and just about every other wild animal. That's why you gotta cook them first ;)

Sounds like you probably want to go with a 20'' if you want to keep it somewhat light. I can't imagine you'd see a whole lot more fps with the 4'' of barrel but I'm no expert on .223

I've BBQed up squirrels before, they aren't half bad. For the most part they are just pests and dig holes everywhere. I shoot them on my parent's land or their neighbors land.

Havnt used that but have used the RRA coyote upper and it seems decent. Used mostly on rabbits though.

Oh Kid price I PM'd ya is on the 20" BTW.

FWIW I had a 24" and loved it- but the thing is very very heavy. I lug around a 22" 10FP with a supressor and don't think it weighs as much! But it was a fun gun to shoot. All the weight made for almost 0 movement.
