    - on my work laptop - my MBP

i use a wired connection for my work file server.

there is also a public wifi hotspot within range.

i'd like to be connected to both at the same time, but use ONLY THE WIFI for internet.

is there any way to do this?

have you tried leaving the wi-fi on auto, and manually inputting the ip/subnet/gateway for the wired connection?

Change the service order so your Airport is first. This will default to using the Airport for all stuff heading out to an IP that isn't routable through one of your other networks (e.g., the internet). Open up the menu (pic below) and drag Airport to the top of the list.
