It would seem it was pretty bright in that place because it just doesn't seem like a club. A darker background would have told the story better. A faster shutter speed would have provided this, but it also looks like the venue sucked anyway so there probably wasn't much for cool lighting effects to help with the shots.

thats a lot of fat mexicans in the one club

i think you also need a faster shutter, a lot of the background stuff is pretty useless like that creepy dude in the background on the first photo

my advice, when you take shots of a DJ at a club....especially if the setup is full of a wire mess like that...don't use a flash, just bump up your ISO and capture more of the ambient lighting.

I agree with Fusion, you didn't PP at all. But you are right, your flash was waaay too overpowering. Why you set it to +1 or anything positive is beyond me. You want to give just enough flash and let the shutter drag enough to get the rest of the light.

How about bouncing the flash off the wall or ceiling?

you need to drag the shutter more and lay off the flash power, i see no reason for +1 FEC.

As far as processing, work towards getting the images right in camera. And the rest will follow. I dont do any post to my club images.

Bump the iso to atleast 800 if not more.

you don't "bounce" the flash in club shots, at least not for photos like this.

The omni bounce will still project some light from the flash head when it's pointed straight up. That's why it still has that awkward forward facing flash look.

I've never done club shots, but can you explain to me why you "don't" bounce the flash? Looking at his pictures it looked like the flash is pointing directly at his subjects. The ceiling doesn't look tall, under ten feet, I just don't see why bouncing is a "don't".

You bounce your flash to get a more even distribution of light. Since you don't need that in a club and only really want to stop motion, bouncing it is not necessary. Not all clubs are under 10ft ceilings either...most of the ones I *used* to shoot in were upwards of 15-20ft AND are painted black or darker colors. This doesn't help with bouncing.

The standard club shot is a little bit of flash, dragged shutter, and a little PP. It's not nearly as technical as other types of photography. Honestly, most Rebel users with on-board flash and a little know-how can do what most club promoters are looking for. :dunno:

Ok thanks. I just never done much inside shots of people, I'm mostly a wildlife photog'er and I seldom use a flash :p

the background should be dark. it's not.
