    CANADIAN PRICE

1999 honda prelude, has 2xx,xxx kms on the car, lady driven 5spd. Great condition only 1 visible rust spot. going in for compression test on tues/wed

its a white car, asking $10,000 Canadian.

If the compression test works out should i buy it (gonna bring her down some more $$). The car has high km's should i let it worry me?

Serious answers please. i know hondas go for a long ass time but i dont want to buy this car and then it crap out, im keeping it till im done school so another 2-3 years.

Big diff if it's 205 000 kms or if it's 295 000. With you being from AB i guess $ 10 000 is not bad, if you were in Ont you can get a 2000 for $ 8000 ish.
97's starting at 6500 + with kms in the range of 150-250 kms.
Hondas do go forever if taken care of. You can have a 260 000 kms car in better mechanical shape than a same car with 160 k.

I wouldn't buy one with that high km's, vtec engines have quite often being flogged there whole life. Not to mention just normal wear and tear. Pay a bit more for a better one.

my 01 has 87000 miles(not km) on it.

i would think if the proper maintenance has been done on it(hope they kept the records on it), it would be ok. but i would still look around for one with less kilometers, you may have to pay a bit more, but in the end it is worth it.

def a high price... on the car itself, items to be concerned about: synchro's, timing belt tensioner... other than that very solid...

true... main issue was the timing belt tensioner... when that went, so did the motor...

i wonder if preludes get stolen in canada as much as they do here. i checked my insurance and it's $100 more per month for an '01 prelude just because of theft rates.

What model Prelude is it? Not every 97-01 came with the H-series motor in Canada, or overseas. If it has an F-Series 2.0L or w/e it is, don't bother.

    Lurk more, post less.

I traded my 97 for $7000 with 117000 kms on it. The insurance is a bitch - but that's more because of how much it costs to fix the bloody things. My insurance went DOWN on a brand new MS3 for crying out loud (although - that could be because they used regular 3 numbers).

the only "real" problem with the 5gen prelude is the synchro's in the gearbox, and its still relatively rare

when and if you get one, immediately go and get the parts to get rid of that auto tensioner, that thing is death! Get the set up for a 4th gen manual tensioner, no probs.
