My buddy is looking to buy this vehicle for $2,500. He called the dealer today and he said that there is a slight "tap-tap-tap" in the engine. They cant figure out what it is, but he said that if you put synthetic oil in it, the tap tap will quiet down a bit.

Anyone have any experience with the tapping of the rodeo engines and what this could be?

its the lifters! I had a 1993 Rodeo and at 175k the left bank on my 3.2liter v-6 it started tapping . You can open it up and tighten them down it lasted me till I bought a new car 3 years.
