I think my truck has run out of freon.

Can I just get one of those kits from the parts place? Or is there a conversion needed for the new freon stuff?

a 93 could potentially go either way, but yours is most likely freon (R12) which you cannot buy anymore. you have a to have a license to purchase/own it.

New stuff (R134a) you can buy. Some parts stores sell conversion kits, I tried one, and wasn't happy with it. Check a local a/c shop, see what they'd charge to re-fill the freon, or to convert.

Go to NAPA auto parts. They have this stuff called Freeze-12 that is a safe alternative to R12. Works pretty good.

they also sell the adapter/hose you need for your A/C.
