Guy is asking $1,400, says the engine overheated. Need to talk to him some more, and talk him down some, but would it be a good idea? 5spd, black, body looks great, tires look fine. From this brief and non-indepth description, should I get it? I needs a car.

You can get a car that runs for that much. Remember that with the turbo and AWD there is more stuff to go wrong with it.

In 1980, AMC introduced the Eagle

In 1987, AMC was purchased by Chrysler

AMC sold its last car in 1988

    Chrysler turned AMC into a new division under the name, 'Jeep/Eagle';

the Eagle division would be phased out after 1998 after the Daimler/Chrysler merger.

last time i checked the Eagle Talon is an american car

Bitch bitch bitch. Fact is, the company of which produced this car is Eagle. An American company. Thus, Eagle Talon -> American Muscle. If you want to go by technicallity, then it's Eastern Imports. But that technicallity doesn't matter because the fucking name is Eagle Talon. :o

Its a four banger, it is not American Muscle.

Now if you want to call it an American Sport Compact or such then sure I agree with you.

But Eagle Talon/Mits Eclipse != American Muscle.

I used to own a GSX and it was a great car, but it wasn't a muscle car.

EDIT. Meh, I looked and realized the Domestic Compacts forum is gone. :o

WTF is up with all these forum deletions? There used to be a science forum and bunch of other cool stuff. :wtc:

I guess this is the new home for domestic sport compacts now too?

Car isn't worth 600 bucks - The car is toast BECAUSE of the turbo, plan on rebuilding the ENTIRE engine, along with the turbo.

Jesus, just answer the kids question. He doesn't need a lecture about how/where the car was produced or a huge semantics discussion about subgroups of car genres.

IMO $1400 seems a little high. My roommate in college had a 1991 TSI. When things started going bad on his it just snowballed. I agree with turbodirectinjection, you can get a whole lot better car for $1400. Plus, you're just going to end up sticking a couple thousand into it to keep in running. It's a money pit.

American Muscle = US car forum, not just traditional muscle cars.

Since the Talon is a Mitsubishi, I'm moving this to Eastern Imports where he'll likely get a bit more help. The Saab 9-2X is in Eastern Imports instead of European Imports since it's a Subaru.

listen to this guy, he knows what he is talking about

if the car overheated you better make sure the headgasket didnt blow. if it did and you dont know how to do it yourself your gonna pay a good bit to get it done. or it could just need a new radiator/and or thermostat.

1400 seems kinda steep for a car that sounds like it needs work. i would say no more than 8-900 bucks for the car.

I just sold my 90 TSi AWD recently for $2000

    It had:
    -Bigger Turbo (TD05H 16G)
-New Motor (75k miles on it)
    -New Clutch
    -17's (tires needed replacing)
    -Upper Intercooler Pipe
-3 inch TRD (Thermal R&D) catback
-Custom 3 inch downpipe w/external wg dump, flanged for easy testpipe/cat switching
    -Eibach Pro-Kit/Koni Shocks
    -Powerstop x-drilled rotors
    -Few gauges
    -Buscher AFPR
    -Ported EVO exhaust manifold
and some other stuff I forget.

All in all, about $10,000 including the car, labor, etc... Sold to a friend for $2000

It had some problems, but still, if you are looking at 1G DSM's, that should give you an idea as to what you can find in that price range. It depends a lot on how bad the person wants to get rid of it. (Guy in my Car Club was/is selling one with a T3/T4 and lots of other goodies (probably a 400hp setup) for 3,000 I believe.

Thing about DSM's is that they tend to require a LOT of attention. If you get one, expect to be shelling out a good bit in repairs and such. The cars are getting old, and stuff is needing replacing. If you take care of them, and do preventative maintenance, they can be fairly reliable (used mine as a Daily Driver for 2.5 years).
