In 1987, the Miller Beer Company employee investment pool bought a Buick GNX and stored it away. It has 9.7 miles on the odometer, original tires, all window stickers and production marks. Now it's for sale.

Here's a story for you guys...

A local guy here recently bought an 11 mile GNX...I believe it was around this time last year when he bought it (or maybe it was early this year)? I believe he paid in the ballpark of $100k.

Anyway...the first thing he did to it was threw an MSD ignition kit and wires on it. He drove it to work (he owns a lumber mill) daily...rain/shine. His son takes it to the interior of BC on a regular basis (about 4-500km drives).

    What a fucking waste :wtc:

Yeah, a GNX like this one would not be a car you drive. Garaged and maintained as new and original all it will do is appreciate.

Back when I got my Grand National in the late 90s there were plenty of GNXs out there that were used for $30k or so. I could have gotten one with 25,000 miles on it at the time, a separate set of wheels and an open trailer for $36,000. My old man and I looked at it but being a kid there was no way I could have come up with even half the money at the time.

I still wish I would have ended up with one somehow though while the nice ones were still somewhat affordable. :hs:

It's his money, but an incredible waste of an extremely rare (547 made) and extremely valuable automobile that would do nothing but appreciate otherwise.

Invest $95K at 5% for 10 years and end up with over $150K. Anyone think that GNX will appreciate another 50% in 10 years?

It's not a waste if he enjoyed driving it. The next guy who gets it can fix it up again if he likes it enough. That's how things work in the real world.

And once you got it, you'd be perfectly content to garage it, drive it a mile a week to keep the tires round, and trailer it to shows? I think not.

Even though it would depreciate in value to drive it...I would kill to take it out for a spin and see how it feels.

Quite a few. I wanted GNX fender flares and Group A wheels for my car when I had it.

NOT 9.7 thousand but 9.7 single miles.

I love the GNX but as an investment it wouldn't be worth it to me (assuming I had the money).

I am a big fam of building up the turbo buicks instead of a grand national. They are cheap and plentiful.

when you have a datsun with 100k miles...yeah you drive the shit out of it.

you're telling me (if you had millions) that you'd buy a (brand new) datsun 240z with 10 miles on it for $100k+ and then start modding it and daily driving it? your fucking logic is so flawed.

YES cars are meant to be driven...but why spend 100k on a GNX with 10 miles on it (i think the one im talking about had 16 miles) and then put 20k miles on it in the first year. You could've bought a regular GNX for less than HALF that money and driven it all day long without it depreciating. The guy spent 100k to do what he could've done for 50k or less.

the 50k car would've retained its value at around 50k.

he brought the 100k value down to 50k by driving and modding it within 2 months

That GNX is a keeper. A trailer queen, 100% original, museum quality car and surely to be worth some serious money for the right investor.

    Wow.

You're right, I wouldn't buy a 240 with no miles on it then mod and daily drive it. But that's because there's no point to that when I can get something almost as good for a platform for way cheaper. But I can understand people who *would* buy a mint car and then drive the piss out of it, and I don't really have a problem with it.
