My dad is building his 70 Monte Carlo. He was set on building a 383 but I told him how (relatively) cheap pullout LS1's are. He's considering it.

    What would you do?

LS1 + T56 and he'd still get at least 15-20mpg on the highway.

    LS1 with a stoker kit.

The question should be "stock LS1, or 383 LS1?".

Even so, he could use a 4L60E and it would yield similar mileage with the proper ratio out back

    A '70 with a stroked LS1 and a Street Fighter 200-4R would be a pretty nice cruiser.

What color 'ya gonna paint it?

Done properly, that's not a bad color at all. Needs more torq thrust II's.

If he likes it... I guess "Go, Dad. Yay."

How much are pulls going for nowadays?

ZZ4 is $3800 at the most expensive place I can find online, and has a warranty...

    LS1 given the choices.

If it was me, it would be a 454/502 all the way. Monte Carlos are heavy ass pigs.

    Wouldn't the 6.0/6.2 out of a Denali/Escalade be cheaper?

something stock and cheap, basic 350 , basic 383 (although overkill IMHO) and stock LS1 would be fine too, just nothing too powerful since it's a giant boat anyway and meant more for cruising than racing IMHO

I'm slowly building one for my dad as well, 70' too :)

I rode home from the hospital in a 72 monte carlo that my granny owned.

it was that same green color, originally with the vinyl top that was eventually removed/painted over.

my fucking uncle got it when she died and traded it for a broke down volvo 240 for his daughter that was so ugly she refused to drive it.

Id have paid him good money for that car.

fucking asshole, the ONLY thing of my grandmothers that Iwas remotely interested in having for sentimental reasons, he traded on a piece of shit that sits down the hill from his house behind the shed and hasnt run in 3 of 4 years.
