Let's see, I've had my car for 9 years and put 110k on it.

...I would need to own it for 84 years to hit 1mil miles.

If she owned that car since day one then for her gas used to be cheap, then it got rare and expensive, then it got affordable, then it got really cheap, then it got really expensive.

That thing must be getting 9-11mpg tops?

This is probably the first Camero to be driven 1 million miles. This is probably the second Chevy to be driven 1 million miles.

A lot of driving, but I'd believe it. A million miles has been done many times over by many cars. Pretty rare for such a pristine classic car to go that high though.

I'm sure the yearly emissions/inspection papers would prove it. That and she said she always has the oil changed when its due, I doubt she is the one changing the oil so the reciepts and the company's logs would probably be enough to prove it.

So basically it's not the same car anymore. None of the moving parts or soft parts would last that long; everything but the bodywork would have to have been replaced several times by now.

Hell, even the bodywork has probably been replaced.

The video states she's been hit in the rear once and the body guy gave the car a full repaint.

$3k for the car new + $25k spent on the car + million miles = better investment than any car you could buy today.

you couldn't do this, with any car made today... atleast not without dumping buttloads of money into it.

They didn't say how much the gas cost, or how much money she could've saved by trading up in 1989. The story is always more complicated than it looks.

why would you "trade up", when you have a great car to begin with??? in 89, nothing would have been a trade up... and nothing made in 89, would have cost as low to maintain for a million miles... in this case, less is more.

wtf does the price of gas have to do with what i said??? i think you're trying to overthink this, and are making it more complicated than it is.

I'm saying I'd like to know (if it were possible) how much she really spent on the car, including gas, before deciding whether she really saved money keeping that one car all these years. Sure, if you keep a car for ten years a couple of MPGs one way or another won't add up to much money, but for 38 years? With all of the technological advancement that's happened in that time? I bet in that time she's spent a new car's worth on extra gas to feed the big thirsty engine in that thing.

That's just academic stuff, though. I'm just as impressed as the next guy that anyone could keep a daily driver running that long, and in such good shape.
