I own a Wilsons Combat, and I still think that and all 1911s are overrated.
I like 1911's, there a well designed weapon not many weapons have the longevity its had, that said I think theres better modern day alternitives, but I'd have no problem relying on a 1911 if it were my only weapon.
the most comfortable and accurate pistol i've ever shot was a tuned up Norinco 1911.
oh well, you know what they say about opinons
Wilson Combat sucks; plain and simple. Yeah, and this comes from a former CQB owner.
The 1911 design has the ability to be upgraded as the shooter gets better. For a beginner, a GI base model is great in that it is more accurate than the shooter is. As the shooter practices and gets to the level of the base, he upgrades that GI to again be more accurate than he is so he can improve. This can go on with the same gun up to matching the best shooters in the world.
or he could just buy a glock
who doesnt love perfection?
didnt you just buy an xd.
Guess those of us who don't care for Glock's ergonomics.
no, i shot my friends. they feel great. but i do prefer glocks overall
shut the fuck up
i didn't like 1911s much until i shot one. i want to get one but dropping ~2K for a nice one is a little too much right now
that's like competition gun pricing. you can find nice one's for like 600 bucks.
wilson combat, nighthawk custom, LB, etc
Wow, I could go for days on this subjet...
I hated 1911's until a couple years ago, then got to looking into them deeper. I now have a Kimber Ultra Carry II as my primary weapon, absolutely love it.
Back in the story a little, when I turned 21 I went out and bought a USP compact .40 and I loved it, great weapon, shoots great, comfortable, everything. (I hate Glocks BTW, the most uncomfortable thigngs on earth to me....) When I went looking for something a little more carry-able I found the Kimber Ultra and ended up buying it, mostly because of the thickness rather than the actual outline size. Either way, had it with me when I bought the Kimber, took them both into the range in the shop I bought the .45 in and shot them for a while. IMMEDIATELY, the Kimber was shooting better (in my hands at least, may not work for everyone...) than the USP compact, and that is a great shooting gun!
I guess it boils down to having a more advanced and technological design and manufacture (USP, Glock, XD, Etc.) or having a mechanism that is simple, effective, and has benefited from 100 yrs of development and improvment.
In short, think they are overrated? Try one before you bash. Still think so? Fair enough, if one gun made everyone happy then owning lots of them would be no fun!
as i said, i own a wilson and ive owned a springfield. im not impressed. i think my wilsons sexy, but id still rather have my glock on me
I'm not sure what it is, but I love them. I like the way that its an ultra-recognizable design. I can take it out and show it, and people that know a little about guns are like, "Hey, sweet 1911." Mine's a Kimber Stainless II, so it looks good, it shoots straight, and they've been true to the design. Maybe its the history of the weapon that fascinates me, or just the fact that its chambered for 45acp, but whatever it is, I like it. Can't wait to get my hands on a WWII 1911 that was issued.
Id call myself an avg shooter... My kimber does MUCH better than my XD and my groups with my XD are better than most other weapons ive tried...
by saying 1911's are overrated is like saying the M14/m1a and the m16 are overrated....if they didnt perform as well as they do then the military wouldnt use them its that plain and simple...the 1911 isnt civilian proven, its combat proven...how much more can you ask for
Springfield ARmory Marine Corps Operator (MC OP)
I have a Kimber Stainless II as well....
I can't wait until I have the cash to buy a nice 1911.... Will be awhile though
