I got some winchester personal defense ammo for my springfield ultra compact and went to test them out yesterday. well out of 7 rounds that chamberd 3 failed to feed.

after spending some time at the gun shop today we have determined that its a problem with the feed ramp. Is there anything i can do to fix this problem?

being an ultra compact is the recoil spring new? I've heard some manufactures recommend replacing them at least every 1000 rounds on the short barrel 1911's. Also is the feed ramp mirror polished? Or not give it a go with some super fine sand paper and a pencil eraser. It could also just be a fact of that ammo. Some guns don't feed too good with some ammo.

I just did some reading on he 1911 forums and i got the same feeling that hollow points are not the best option. ball seems to be the way to go

1911's need the feed ramp polished. Most today are and work fine with hollow points....

Alternatively...Could actually even be your mags. Some 1911 mags have the follower pointing more like the original WW2 GI mags, and do not position the rounds at the angle more likely to feed the JHP's better into the chamber of a 1911. What brand mags were they?

I have Wilson 47D's and Chip McCormick power mags feeding a TRP and a Loaded Springer and they feed Winchester Silvertips, Golden Sabers, etc, perfectly.

    Stock Springfield mags

We tried chambering the JHP with brand new kimber mags and had the same results.

Sounds like a gun show gun!

Try some Corbon DPX in it.

HOnestly this is one area that Glock and Springfield really have their shit together.
The problem with the 1911 type guns under 4" barrels is the feed ramp is INSAINLY steep and therefor they are not the most reliable option.

The security team I work with looked @ 12 different guns and before buying we concluded that the rate of jamming or ramping failure on the shorter 1911 made them a non candidate.

It sucks but you cant make 1 gun do everything well.

I had my ramp tuned and polished on my 1911 and it would still deform CorBon ammo. I couldn't have a real shallow or soft hollowpoint in my Springfield, and found Hydra-Shok's worked the best with minimal feeding problems.

I should go up the road and buy a Tussey Custom 1911 so I can sit around and make fun of those cheapskates that didn't bother to spend $4000 for a "real" 1911 but instead bought a cheap Les Baer or even cheaper Wilson CQB. :mamoru:

Magazines can also have an effect. From what I understand the Wilson mags actually set the top round a few 0.001's higher for better feeding. Since I polished the ramp of my RIA I haven't had any problems feeding 230gr. Gold Dots and 185 gr Silvertips.
