I think I'm gonna go ahead and get a 1911 (I miss my Colt :wtc:), but I don't know what to get. I'd like to keep it below $1200 too.

    I've been considering the following:
    Kimber Warrior
    Springfield Operator
    Dan Wesson Pointman

Is the Springfield TRP Operator worth the $? Is the Lightweight Operator any good? Kimber? Other suggestions? Should I just get something cheaper and mod it?

    I'm so lost :hs:

^Those pics are what made me look into the PM7 and add it to the list.

TRP is nice gun, but isn't worth the asking price in my view. If you are willing to spend $1200 my advice would be save a few extra dollars and look at offerings from Wilson, Les Baer, etc.

The Springfield Loaded isn't a bad gun for the money and will come in well under your budget.

Yeah that's a nice gun up there! :)

It shoots circles around my cousins Custom Gold Match for almost half the cost. And in the 8 competitive matches I've entered it in, I've placed 3rd a few times with a strong crowd of Expert shooters and better, not bad for a new gun that's barely got 2k rounds on it.

I bought the PM7 for $840 and spent the money where it should be spent with a very respectable and competent local 1911 gunsmith and quality select parts. When faced against competitors armed with $3k 1911's, I don't feel undergunned at all. :) And it's still less than the Kimber.

With the money saved, this is what I spend my coinage on...

    (ammo, shit load of ammo)

You ask anyone competent / accomplished shooter, it's better than any little trinket you can hang on your pistol, guaranteed. My gun is a pretty gun killer. :)

Springfields are great, either TRP or MC operator. I'd avoid the warrior for now- read the recomended duty 1911's on 10-8 forums, warrior was removed due to lots of QC issues.

Still doing to it, I'm waiting to get my "back up" 1911 up to snuff so I can send this out again as that is currently out.

    - S&A Magwell w/ curved MSH blended
    - Infinity Trigger
    - Competition 2lb trigger w/ Ed brown parts
    - Wilson Ext Mag release
    - Wilson Ext Slide release
    - Dawson Front Fiber Optic
    - Ed Brown Ambi thumb Safety "Wides"
    - Larry Davidson Mircata Grips, Magwell/ Ambi cut w/ recessed mag release slot.

Still deciding on wether or not I want a DK hammer, or keep my Ed Brown hammer.

    Gear:

    Safariland 012 Holster
    CR Speed mag holders

Because with shopping you can find decent prices, and it seems as though he'd like a railed 1911.

If not then yes, just go with a loaded model. still great guns

Should also see what he wants this for... carry or competition cause obviously he doesn't need a lot of those mods for a carry piece and the rail would come in handy for carry.

I always like having one... and your guy you always post off his opinion says right in his whole 1911 speech you want rails. :dunno:

Possible carry/home defense/duty weapon, probably mostly a range toy.

The rail isn't a requirement, but I wouldn't mind having one.

I'm pretty sure it was stated in other places but this is all I more or less meant. He says it should have it and all those ones he put on his list had a rail and most were his own co-designed models... The poster isn't looking for competition so therefore I'd imagine it'd be a nice thing to have regardless. The rail isn't going to make it some big burden to carry vs "being so thin otherwise" plus I wasn't looking for some argument I was just adding to what somebody else posted on having a rail since your post seemed to come off as 1911 w/ a rail is a horrid thing that is unspoken of.

speakin of your work did you post a foloowup (link) to yours since you got it back? it looked wicked.

The duty 1911 is a good write up but is def for duty use. I don't see the point of rail if there is no pressing need for it.

I love the DW Commander Bobtail. I am torn between it and the basic S&W Commander. There are some Les Baer and Wilson's I love but just can't justify the cost. A LB Concept VII would be sweet though.

I know it says it doesn't work for everybody..but it doesn't say anything about a rail it basically says some people want some features others don't. Lots of guys seem to only want pistols with a rail and I think that's probably why it was brought up in this thread.

Besides we all know that no 1911 is complete without this..

I haven't seen them because nobody ever has a single 1911 in w/ a rail ever. I figured it'd be like any other gun which I never noticed any issue, not even on HK which are bulky all together... however that Glock one is horrible and makes me even more glad I have an M&P
