If you don't read backpackinglight.com I highly recomend it.

Anyway the titanium goat guys have a super light rifle for backpacking.

i've heard remarkably bad things about lightweight barrels wrapped in carbon fiber, I wonder how this performs.

Really? I love mine. Build quality on the volquertson wasn't quite pristine (breech face) but it shoots great. It's probably not the same as a proper stainless bull barrel, but definitely well within hunting quality accuracy. With a BB gun scope, shitty trigger, bipod, at 25 meters in the wind I'm hitting quarters.

The volquertson with a hogue overmold is the hotness for offhand shooting. If someone made this with a adjustable comb and/or a high quality folding stock I'd pee in my pants.

It's concealable and has a pistol grip. Clearly it's made for hunting people and should be banned.

While I'm not a huge backpacker I would want to bring more gun. Really a 4 pound gun is not that heavy. Something like a thompson contender G2

You got a wide range of calibers to choose from and it's just a simple swap out. You can find used small caliber G2's in the mid $200's usually in 22lr, 22mag, or 17hmr. Hiking around in montana with all the wild criters such as bear I would want something more substantial. 44mag sounds about right to me.

I think the original rifle posted would be a good back up more than anything (besides the fun factor of hunting small game with it). Something happens to your main gun and at least you can still kill some food.

Mine's twice the weight, but half as small, more than half as quiet, and holds 10x as many rounds :)

Also to put the whole weight thing in perspective, this guy did like 600 miles in Alaska with 10 lbs of gear unsupported so he's probably a little more anal about weight. I wish I had more room to set up a proper machine shop. Some thing like this with a ruger rotery mag would be fun as fuck.

Just not sure about the $425 price tag.

Looks like a fun little rifle though.

Now that would be interesting. Have to be pretty cool though, as you could get a SBR 10/22 down pretty low if someone was so inclined. I bet I could get one down in the low #4's, though a folder would probably add more weight.

"More than half as quiet"? Does that mean more than twice as loud?
