Pittsylvania County Deputy Sheriff accidentally shot

    From staff reports
    March 21, 2008

A veteran Pittsylvania County Deputy Sheriff was injured Thursday by a gunshot at a routine training session.

Ronald Anderson, who has served the Sheriff's Office for 24 years and been a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics team for 16, shot himself in the hand during a routine training session, Sherriff Mike Taylor reported.

During the weapons reloading segment of the training session, Deputy Anderson's firearm discharged, a preliminary report indicates.

An on-scene SWAT medic administered immediate treatment before Anderson was transported to the Danville Regional Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Master Firearms Instructor was still investigating the case yesterday.

How does one shoot oneself in the hand while reloading a weapon?
