Okay OT. I just got my payout from an accident w/ a drunk driver a few months back...

Now, I have up to $15k to spend (about $7,500 cash) in order to get a truck or SUV I want.

    Here are my parameters...

    semi-new (2002 or newer)
    low miles (under 50k)
under $15k (obviously the lower the better)
    V8
    4x4 w/ Low range
seats at least 5 (i don't care if it's extended cab, quad cab, or SUV)

OK GO! What do we think???

it's awd, not 4x4 but the quadrasteer makes living with a truck SO much easier.

    really?

sounds more complicated, more shit to break. if you have trouble driving a truck you probably don't need one.

im not going to lie and tell you there's less shit to break, but besides the occasional alignment it hasn't caused me any problems and has been nothing but helpful.

Quad steer is awesome for towing. Past that it just lets people who use SUVs as grocery getters park straight.

Are you towing or just going off road with a group of people. If mostly the 2nd part, you're jeep material. If towing, a dodge or chevy or ford fullsize, depending on your preference. I dont know about where you are, but around here you can get a Chevy/GMC at auction with half the miles you're asking for and relatively new for 15k. :)

I have a 20' boat to pull (tandem axle trailer), no more than 5,000lbs and I will go out to the mud hole with friends, up to sedona for a light trail ride, and camping with the wife.

I don't think a Jeep is necessary, and I am not a fan of the cherokees or GC's, in fact I'm coming to find out I just don't really like mid sized SUV's.

What type of Auctions should I look for in order to get those prices you stated?

Re-Po auctions. They are strictly by word of mouth around here but they have to have them everywhere. It's a used car dealer secret I think. Open to anyone but no one knows about them. The ones that do get advertised get loaded with a bunch of people thinking they are going to strike a deal and the vehicle ends up selling for almost its privet party value. It's hit or miss, so it may take a few months to find what you're looking for if you find it at all. :)

I love my 01 Tahoe. Picked that up with 81k on it 3 years ago for $13000. Probably find a nice enough one now within your price range.

    x1029840938454760934747!!!!

if you cant park it, dont buy it!!

i think there should be a parking test before the dealer lets you buy a vehicle ... if you are a 18 yr old white trash chick that wants a F350 ... prove you can park it and then you can buy it (i have yet to see this happen, and i live in virginia so i get lots of chances to test my theory!!!)

    If you want/need a diesel, go for a '01-03 Duramax, otherwise for a gasser an '03-06 Silverado/Sierra.

its my roommates, always synthetic fluids, well taken care of, black exterior, tan interior, leather, CD changer, COLD a/c, HOT heat, and the only thing he has had replaced due to failure since i have know him (other than wearable items, obviously) is warped front brake rotors ... but the yota rotors are notoriously soft anyway.

IIRC its an 02, xcab, v8, limited, 97-98K .... the only damage is the normal chips from highway (not many though), the passenger side got hit by a tractor/forklift when my roommates uncle owned the vehicle, and the bes is scratched up inside pretty good (its a truck, it gets used to haul shit)

only thing it needs right now is tires ... tires are bald as fuck.

he is asking 8900 IIRC with new tires of your choice (damn good deal if you ask me ... i was thinking about buying it but got a BMW instead, and had it appraised by a friend of ours for 10,500 retail, 8,000 trade-in, 9,400 private party (excluding tires).

if you are interested, ill give you his number and you can call him. located in 24141
