I've formatted about 15 times in 2 months, and decided to leave the side for my case off. Windows files always randomly get deleted and blah blah. Anyway, when leaving the side of, I heard the drive over the sound for three system fans and my psu, making loud scraping noises when writing data. I've never had a hard drive this loud.

time for an RMA? I didn't get a floppy drive, so can't do the error checking bullshit.

I've had lots of problems out of the Maxtor's as of late. Stay away. Western Digital JB Series wins.

    Seagate drives > *

We ordered a batch (20 drives) of 80gb Maxtor HDDs back in June, and sofar we are shooting 60% dead, and it's only November.

I will never EVER purchase another Maxtor drive.

We just had a Maxtor crap out at work. Good thing that tech services were able to run some recovery software, to get some of the important stuff back.
