Im getting a laptop for college and i think i am going to go with a 12 inch powerbook. so who has one? what annoys you about it, are you glad you got the 12 inch? how much ram do you have? is that enough?

    ram question:
If i were to buy a powerbook and just get the 256mb that comes standard how many open slots are there? how easy is it to open up a powerbook? what kind of aftermarket ram is the best for macs?

    thanks

I have a 15in PB myself and I love it.

If you order it with 256mb, you will only have one slot left open. 512mb is recomended for best performance all around. I personally would not go any less, but would prefer more.
Crucial is good RAM for PB's, so I would try them as well as memoryx.com for more RAM.

If the Aluminum PB's are anything like the Ti's like I have, all you have to do is open the keyboard up (there are two little tabs on top by F1 and F10 or something) and it is accessible. (sp?)

the memory is behind a door at the bottom. Not behind the keyboard.

I say Corsair all the way.

And the PBs come with 256MB Built-in... there is only 1 slot, anyway.

Ram is easy to add. Takes 2 min to replace. Check the Apple site to see what models max out at what Ram size.

12" PB maxes out at 1.25GB, which is a 1GB stick (you add) plus the 256MB of on-board.

corsair is the way to go, and you can get it either at newegg, or a retail store.

Why not order from Apple or their store and get the education discount and save around 10 percent or something! IDK, would newegg really have it for cheaper?

Do you guys think its worth buying the apple protection plan... or is it kinda useless? the good thing is, i have a apple store about 20 minz away, so if i did get the plan, i can just bring it in...

Buying it from apple is rediculously expensive. I bought a 1gb stick PC2700 from newegg for $220, at the apple store upgrading to 1gb costs $700. Not Corsair/Crucial or whatever, but it works.

Also, you have up to 1 year after your purchase to buy the APP.

apple memory prices are CRAZY high. It's like 1/3 the price at newegg.

get app you'll kick your self if something stupid breaks after the 1 year warrenty. you're looking at at least $300 for any repair. make sure the ram you get is high quality. if you get cheap stuff you are asking for kernal panics

The keys are all silver to match and the high end 15" and 17" models have keys that light up as well. The screens have antennas built in for the built in airport cards among a few other things now.

I purchased my 12" PB for school use. It's 1.33ghz and I upgraded the RAM to 1.25ghz. No regrets on my part :).
