powerbook doesnt seem to be worth the extra money.

its +500 for the super drive, 64mb vid card vs 32mb, a little faster hd, 2x hd space, and a nicer enclosure.

Doesnt that seem a bit steep? for a slightly smaller enclosure and the same display?

I think I am going to get the 12" ibook
Its not even my main computer. Just using it for when I want to work outside of the office and getting work done while im stuck in a class room for school.

While each item may seem small, it does add up.

Main advantage of powerbook is being able to span monitors, and closed-lid mode. Advantages of ibook; more rugged, slightly better wireless reception, 512MB ram on board rather than PB's 256.

For some, the price difference is acceptable(only 400 with edu discount)

well I found a hack for the monitor spanning, but it doesnt come with the default setup. closed lid mode isnt that big of a deal.
I think it comes down to if you want the small form factor and one of the best compact labtops available or a really good labtop that is still small but doesnt have all of the features of its older brother.

That leaves you powering two screens with only 32mb. Still not a problem, but less than ideal.

I want to get at powerbook bad (I've got a g3 ibook right now)

I think once my free ibook comes in I'll use that money to buy one? Either that or wait a month and see what jan's expo tells me :noes:

I also think the screens look nicer on the powerbooks even though they are the same size

i'll wait till they release the mactel ibooks...they are almost clearancing the current ibooks, so you know they are making room for something new.

kinda like how they were giving away ipod minis when you bought a system a while ago, then they released the nano

    why?

im hearing a lot of opinions, but not much reasoning behind them.

i know about the intel based ibooks/pb's but I dont want to wait 6-12 months.

I love my iBook but everyday i regret getting the 14" iBook instead of the 12" PB.

We'll i suppose i don't really regret it. When i got the iBook it was more powerful then the Powerbook i could afford.

I dont like the way the ibook keyboard feels when I type on it. The powerbook keyboard feels much more smooth.

i'm visa versa, and i HATE the trackpad on my friends 15inch powerbook. I cant type, and the track pad is smaller and the buttons are thiner.

the ibook is laggy compared to the powerbook line. I don't have true evidence to back this up, but my g3 pismo powerbook (400mhz) ran smoother than my ex-girlfriends g3 ibook (750mhz) and had more apps and less hd space.

i'd stick with the powerbook line.

I gotta make this decision soon too....the Powerbook just looks a lot more appealing to me than the iBook.
