Hell yes, #3 is the shit.

How'd you get this kind of access if you don't mind me asking? I'm looking forward to ALMS here in Utah at Miller Motorsports Park, which is awesome as shit, but obviously my petty 70-200mm and FX will basically take pictures of bug-sized cars.

    I want a media pass, I want, I want, I want!

Wont help that much at Miller without a 500 or so. That place is big.

Yes, still enjoying the D3. I hear the MkIV is pretty damn good, couple of guys are using them and supposedly a huge improvement over the MkIII, but I am happy with the Nikon gear.

Audi is not here in the race as they have a new version of the R15 that is designed for Le Mans and does not meet the current rules. Peugeot did not want to give them an exemption for this race so they could not run it. They are here in Sebring for private testing on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Yup, 200mm won't get me anything. Thinking about taking a 70-300mm and renting a 2.0x which should help.

Have you always shot for big venues...any tips on getting a media pass? I've heard that smaller events (ALMS is easily the marquee event of the year here) are easy to get, but I have no idea how.

You're better off with your 70-200 and a 2x. Converter on a 70-300 will suck.

Talk to media outlets and see if you can do work for them, then they'll have to apply for the credential for you. You need to show the series you have a legit purpose for a media credential.

Yup...although F11 would be just fine at ALMS in the middle of the day. Damn thing is in July, instead of May as usual (meaning it will be 100 degrees with no cover compared to 80s).

I forgot I have the Sigma 50-500mm that I can use. I'll still bring my 70-200mm and might rent a 2x if it's not too spendy.

Awesome, I'll dig around. Appreciate the input.

But you will most likely lose autofocus.

Damn, are the teleconverters that bad? I've never used them...I just thought you lose a stop of light and that's all.

Sounds like w/ the 2x you lose 2 stops and AF goes to crap?

well you lose light, so the AF sensors also lose light. you are staring at a 5.6, so already your AF system is workign harder than it would be if you had a 2.8. So imagine if you less even two more stops, rather than having the AF system try to AF for you (which it would do terribly) the camera disables the AF system and lets you manual focus.

the more light that you allow through your lens the better your AF will be.

was wondering if you got any shots of the flying lizard porsche when it got hit by the run away wheel or the ferrari fire?

seems like peugot has no real competition without audi being there so hopefully Le Mans will be a battle

other than that looking forward to seeing your shots from the race
