While we were at out 0900 formation today, the call has come down that 10th Mtn is in need of 2LT's who have completed IOBC within the next 90 days.

At present I'm assigned to 1st Brigade, 1st Cav from Hood and not due to report until December.

Can y'all pass some input for 10th Mtn?? :wavey:

    Its cold.

I went from Ft Benning to Ft Drum and it was like going from summer in cali to winter in chicago times 10.

If you do decide to do it, make sure you are going to Ft. Drum and not 4th brigade 10th Mountain @ Ft. Polk. Ft. Polk is one of the shittiest posts in the Army. 4th Brigade is ramping up for an Iraq deployment so I could see them putting out the call to fill some slots.

I'd love to go to FT Drum...everything I've heard about it makes me want to go. You never answered me the other day...are you Branch Detailed Signal?

Isn't that the other way around? Hoping for another guy to get stationed with you so that you can cuddle up together at nights?

    Branched Infantry, detailed nothing ;)

I'll be going to Hood; report date is still Dec 1.

After a short and sweet meeting with about 20-25 other 2LT's (of which 5 were Ranger Tabbed), they ended up taking 12. Among those 12, 4 were Ranger qualified, nearly all had their Jump Wings and one additional course.

What surprised me was even having your Ranger Tab had NO bearing on gaining a Rifle Platoon. Hell, nearly all the guys that were snatched up didn't have their tab! Revised my time-line here to pick up the courses I want to take (Airborne, Mech Leaders, CLS and I hope Anti-Armor) and then get the hell outta here.

Anyone else hitting up Airborne on August 6th?

Infantry is all fun and good at the Platoon level...beyond that it's gay crap. Need competent leaders in the SC at all levels and the experience the IN brings is phenomenal and desired in the SC

im MI branch detail FA. What will I honestly be doing once I get MI. I have a feeling I'll be stuck as an S2 somewhere, not doing anything remotely exciting.

BTW, your a weird dude man. Why the fuck would you want to get stationed in upstate NY. It sounds about as appealing as a ball waxing. Same with Ft. Riley.

And there's nothing homosexual about hoping more people I know go to Hood. :o I need friends dammit.

im at drum now. its cold but the truth is, we havent had an actual classic fort drum winter in about 4 years. it didnt REALLY snow until about february and lasted only a couple months.
right now the summer weather is gorgeous. theres lots of outdoorsy stuff to do and you can get to a bunch of cool places within a few hours.
i dont know, i dont like it, but at the same time, its kind of grown on me.

Who needs friends when you have the Internet? :eek3:

    I like snow. :dunno:

FT Riley is equidistant from my parents and my wife's parents houses.

MI? I had a very long drunken discussion about MI / Signal last night with my boss. I hope he doesn't think me a weird dude now. :o

Information Managers rather than Information Technology - focus of officers whether SC is a manager of information flow instead of a current focus of managing electrons and circuits. etc etc etc. I was really drunk. :o

we do pt until its about -37 or so.
its up to the command though.
since we have the luxury of a hangar, we do pt inside once its cold.
there have been PLENTY of runs though that soldiers came back with icicles hanging from their eyelids, nostrils and lips.
you know youre acclimatized though when its 30* and youre wearing shorts to shovel snow or to go to the store...

more like -40F. We'll be out there while its -15F during a snow storm on a 3 mile run in shorts and short sleeves.

Ft. Drum is really nice from May-Sept. The rest of the time its nothing but extreme cold and lots of snow.

3-71 3rd BCT signing in
