I am buying a 40" LCD TV. They have recently come out with 1080p capable sets in this size. Will I be able to notice the difference at this size? The price difference is about $500.

If the $500 is not a huge deal for you, I say go for the 1080p and eliminate any possible buyer's remorse. I saw 1080p on a 50" plasma the other day and it looked amazing.

just bought a new tv. I only wanted to look at 1080p LCD's and came home wtih a 50" plasma 720p. it basically comes down to that only blue ray or what not can support 1080p so whats the point. Sure, many years down the road cable may be running 1080p but the 720p picture you will get will still be amazing. I was looking to get the sony 40" lcd 1080p. I got there and it looked so small sitting next to all the others, thats why I came home with 50"

cnet claims you have to go around 55-60" before it's a noticeable difference ... for whatever that's worth

Satalite TV has 1080p. I think I might get a 42'' 1080p LCD soon enough.
