Any suggestions on what you'd build? I want a P4 with at least a 2.5ghz processor. It will be for gaming so i'll probably pick a Geforce4 Ti4200+. This price does not include a monitor, anyone wanna give me a nice platform? :wiggle:

If you're buying a monitor in that 1000 I would HIGHLY recommend going the AMD route instead of the Pentium. The performance loss you will take in GHz will not even be noticable. Let's see...if you take off monitor and video card price off the bat you have like ~700 bucks left to play around with, depending on how big of a monitor. AMD will cost significantly less.

Instead of focusing on a fast processor you should focus on a well rounded system that will be able to balance the load of games. Anything over 1 GHz is more than enough for current games. GeForce 4/Radeon 8500/9000 is a good choice, plenty fast. And make sure you have plenty of fast RAM. 512 if you can squeeze it in. Good luck.

He said the price doesn't include the monitor. I'd definitely look at AMD too. Just better value unelss you're going to overclock, then some of the lower end P4's are quite worth it. 2.53Ghz proc alone costs you 234 at newegg which usually has pretty competitive pricing. That's going to take you down a whole lot... If you do consider AMD, look at the nForce2 platform. If you're looking at Intel you might think about something Granite Bay. Maybe Asus' one.

Woops, misread that one. In that case you can jack up the video card a couple notches, put in a bigger hard drive, or whatever.

wait for the geforce fx to come out if you want top of the line :p

& you obviously have the money to spend, get a pentium 2.4B, overclockable it to 3ghz & still be stable.

asus p4pe mobo, or mabye something better since you have the cash....

    enermax whisper 431w power supply.

Either that or we should make a sub-forum for every time someone bumps an oldie.
