Next gen games could be completely DD. What are your thoughts on this?

No more renting games... but you will get to try out the demo before you buy.

But the main reason for DD... No more Selling used games. Devs/publishers lose a massive amount of sales and money from used games sales.

Sony is already testing out 100% DD with the PSP GO! and MS is testing DD out with their new On Demand service or whatever it's called.

Potential problems.... some games may be way too big for D/L...and A lot of households have a limit of bandwidth.

I also think the uncertainty around DD will cause somewhat of a delay for next gen for MS and Sony.

Nintendo wont give a fuck since it's mostly little kids buying their games, and kids rarely re-sell them or buy used. Ninty will go on with no problems while Sony and MS try to figure this out.

I think it would be good only cause you get demo's for pretty much everything if not all of it, however buying games used is quite nice, and yeah limited bandwidth would put a damper on DL I am kinda torn.

I dont think 100% DD will happen any time soon

One more thing.... It could also mean cheaper games since Sony/MS would be cutting out the middle man (Bestbuy, gamestop, walmart, etc).......

then again, it would mean we never get good deals like the recent Batman: Arkham Asylum for $38.

Creator of God of War and Twisted Metal just made a youtube blog entry ....basically saying within the next 5 years games will go DD.

Reason being developers and publishers are losing way too much money from used games sales, while GameStop is making a huge profit on them.

He also mentioned that games are becoming more and more expensive to make... which many other devs have said as well... Activision even wants to raise game prices to $100... I think it's a huge concern for the industry. Games are much more expensive to make now, and games aren't selling as well as they used to because of how popular used game sales have become (GameStop, Ebay, craigslist)

If they do make it DD, they will release a LIMITED number of hard discs for people who can't DL.

Or release the game discs in boxes that cost ~2-5 bucks that allow you to install the game on your HD then pay the cost for the full game, saving you the DL.

Maybe a lot of games will be offered by DD in 5 years but I'm pretty certain it wont be anywhere near 100%

    FAIL.

Canada will get FUCKED by this. Our internet infrastructure is laughable at best, and rates for very limited bandwidth are outrageous.

I'm still going to be buying hard copies.

I don't think John Q Consumer will ever completely embrace DD. Some consumers will always want a physical format.

Everyone can go to the store and buy a game. Not everyone can download it ( sadly ).

Either way, i think DD will slowly penetrate (muahahaha nice one huh) the gaming market over the next few years.

But i doubt within 5-8 years it will be the norm. Itll be more than it is now, but it will not be the only way to get the game.

I am a schwag whore and therefore like to display my games in some form usually, be in on a shelf or something else... if buying digitally is cheaper, than maybe, but I'll stick to picking up the physical copies

Kids these days are from a console generation. I dont think theyll swap over to a purely digital format without a fight.

On another note I wonder what anti-pirating measures they could put in place to stop illegal downloading.
