I'm thinking I might get the 40D and get the Canon 10-22mm however I saw something that EF-S lenses are designed for smaller sensors

I just want to make sure, does this include the 40D? Does the 1.6x sensor mean anything but FF pretty much? What does everyone else think about the 10-22?

All XXD camers with the exception of the 10D can use EF-S lenses.

Full frame and EF-S do not go together.

    That means 1ds/5d/5dMKII

    I don't know about the 1d though.

Thank you. Now, anyone have any experience with the lens? Any better recommended wide angle lenses? Nothing too expensive for now.

i have it for my 40D. its a good lens if you want to go ultra wide but not something i would keep on the body the whole time. i'd much prefer the 17-55 in color/sharpness/range/f2.8.

ps. the 10-22 is great, the sigma 10-20 is 90% there and cheaper. being very wide its not great for everything, but very useful for landscapes, city shots car shots etc.

I didnt like the feel of the ef-s 10-22. It feels so cheap for what you pay. I went with the tokina 12-24 f4. Its a solid lens and cheaper, but not as wide. Go to a store and check them out and see what you prefer.

Yes i also went with the Tokina it has 'L' quality in terms of build and how solid it feels. Its 2mm less wide than the Canon and Sigma but its not a huge deal and the IQ is hardly noticeable between the three anyways.

    LOL @ 5MP images.

I had a 10-22 on my 30D and loved it. Be sure to use the hood though, its pretty bad with flare if you don't.

    ^ Brings up my question...

    10-22 versus 17-40

    Any thoughts/opinions?

17-40 > 10-22 definitely. You don't have to worry about replacing your lens if you upgrade to FF. Check this out: http://kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/17-40mm.htm

but most people don't upgrade to a full frame camera because for most people there is no point (more expensive camera, more expensive lenses, more lens problems), and in that case the 10-22 is great wide angle lens.

Would you say it's better than the 17-40?

First of all.... Your Av = :bigthumb:

Secondly.... Yeah, I don't see myself ever going to a ff unless it was stupid cheap or free.

no, but it is a very different lens. on a 40d one is wide to normal-ish, the other is stupid wide to quite wide.
