notice the amount of cores, and the fact that i cant select processor #2

My CPU seemingly does not want to use it's second core... I'm using Windows XP home (That may be the problem, im reformatting soonwith XP PRO to check) and my dad used this CPU a week on his computer before his Core 2 Duo came in and it worked fine in his system.
I defragmented recently (last week) I would have reformatted by now, but it seems that my DVD drive is incapable of burning a windows xp pro iso :sad2:
Any insight would be helpful :hs:

I'd also suggest you make sure you have the latest motherboard drivers installed.

Well, in my BIOS, it says my CPU count is 2, so im thinking that it must be some odd thing with windows :sad2: ill install ubuntu and see how it goes.
Hopefully my wireless will work in linux

Make sure that after you install windows you patch it and make damned sure that SP2 is one of the patches.

Ubuntu will recognize both cores, but you'll need to install the SMP kernel before it'll actually use both. Luckily, this is easy to do through Synaptic.

Open Task Manager, go to the Processes tab, right-click on one of the processes running under your username (not the "SYSTEM" username), and click on the "Set Affinity..." option in the menu that appears. If the window that pops up gives you the option to choose between two checkboxes, then Windows knows you have a dual-core CPU. If you can't find the "Set Affinity..." option, then Windows doesn't know you have a dual-core CPU.

Or go to the task manager -> Performance tab and look at the CPU Usage History graph. If there are 2 of them side by side then Windows knows you have dual core.

That'll work too, unless he's got one of those fancy Core Duos with Hyperthreading, in which case it gets more complicated.
