both same reliability, modability the turbo engine always wins.

if you are not modding it, you will enjoy the vr6 more, however if you are the 1.8t is the shit.

    1.8T > VR6

    But I'm biased.

You can do alot with the 1.8t. A friend of mine had one put into a late 80's Golf, and he's got it up to ~210 HP/240lb/ft. I gotta get a ride in that little monster.

    VR6 Sound > Spooling 1.8T any day.

    1.8T with upped boost > VR6 with I / H / E, Chip and all other bolt ons.

    VR6 6-speed > 1.8T 5-speed

I would rather take the 1.8T, but my MK3 Golf only came in VR, so that's the one I chose :dunno:

I like the mk3 body styling better. So get an a3 Golf and swap in a 1.8T :bigthumb: :bigthumb:

i would supercharge a vr6.. supercharging is better anyways as far as racing is concerned.. no blast of power in the middle of a corner that will cuase you to spin out :o just smooth even boost.

And Supercharger is better for street use IMO because I want my low-end power.

I like the turbo sound better though :)

    VR6 MPG > *

In all honesty, I wouldn't. The mk4 hulking body is too heavy for the measly 174 hp that gives you.

Take the 2002 and get 30 more hp :bigthumb:

Or get a new one with a 6-speed gearbox.

I would get a 1.8t if I were in your shoes. You could get one cheap and a chip is great on it.

From a 95 passat vr6'er, who's test driven the new 1.8T GTI... go for the Vr6.. oh and B4/MK3 frames > new crap :)

Supercharged Vr6 w/borla exhaust = most unique best sounding car... will make you cream like a lambo would. :)

    I have a VR6, but have never driven a 1.8T.

Of the things I heard about the 1.8T, that would be my choice.

Get an a2 GTI with a 1.8T swap. You'll smoke anything on the road!!!

    I've seen a 1.8t mk2 get 12 second timeslips.

    I MUCH prefer 1.8t
but I like the stuff u get with VR6 (okay, I only really like the trip computer) . .

    I've driven two MKIV GTIs, one VR6 (first). . and later, my friend's 1.8t GTI. . (2001, 2003, respectively)

the turbo is much more fun, IMO.
