Just picked up 2003 e46 BMW M3 (6spd), its currently bone stock and I have $3,000 to dump into it. For the bimmer crew if you could recommend both cosmetic and performance upgrades please.

    Thanks

    Rims and tires.

Get some lighter wheels and some good tires.

After 5 years as a BMW mechanic that was the only mod that I ever saw make a difference.

Body kits make it look worse, exhaust sytems don't make it sound better (just like a different type of ass) and there's not really any way to wring more power out of it for $3k.

The best mod would be putting it down towards the loan, or if you bought it out right with cash then a high yield savings account.

Having my E46 M3 now for 3 months I still don't want to do anything except minor things like tint maybe a nice used set of 19in OEM wheels when I need tires. But honestly if you want a performance gain faster 0-60 and 0-100 I would do the 3.91s gears. That will set you back 2K. I want to drive a M with those gears before I do it to my car.

    Fix the engine.

  12. i would do some nice wheels/tires, although for that budget there isn't anything too nice for the m3 except for the OEM zcp wheels

otherwise, i'd probably drop the car with a nice coilover system and put on some tint. maybe an mp3 headunit?

Spend the money on a driving school. It will make you much faster with the car than anything else you can do for 3K.

I saw the CSL trunk lid on www.bimmernav.com and it looks dope

Other than that, I'd do Koni shocks, Bluetooth, BBK, wheel/tires, short throw kit, in any order

Thanks guys, I will look into new rims and tires.

As far as the shift knob can anyone link me to a decent one (preferrably "M" branded") I really do not like the stock one.

    Thanks

  16. There aren't any good ones. Hartge makes some NICE interior knobs, ebrake, and steering wheel emblems. Other than that, anything with an ///M is usually a cheap replica unless its OEM ie the SMG knob, m5/m6 knob, etc.

I would go for the csl replicas, exhaust to get rid of the rasp, window tint, maybe a short shifter or some other piece like that. That will about get rid of that 3k.
